About Sophista

I founded Sophista* in 2012 after 20 years' experience in the corporate sector where people got sick of me correcting their emails. I have worked for some of the world's largest companies including Siemens and BMW Australia and five star hotels such as Hayman Island and InterContinental. I completed the highly accredited Diploma in Professional Writing and Editing at RMIT University, Melbourne in 2012. Qualified in linguistics, business and professional editing, I have worked with publishing houses, authors and corporations in meeting deadlines and developing strong client relationships with integrity and discretion.

A career in event management gave me great skills in meeting deadlines, attention to detail and project management. I carry this through to my editing work as I thrive on seeing a project through to completion - this means your thesis, essay, book or website copy!

I keep a foot in the events door by being involved in committees for both Editors Victoria and IPEd, the national editors organisation. I was part of the organising committee for the bi-annual national editors conference held in Melbourne, May 2019.

I have enjoyed getting my red pen out and helping dozens of students, writers, budding writers and business owners to take their project to fruition in whatever form that may be. And if my clients learn a thing or two about editing along the way - even better!

*Sophista takes its name from the Latin: Sophist. The Sophists were teachers from ancient Greek and Roman times specialising in virtue and excellence who were paid for their services in rhetoric. Let's use poetic licence and say they were ancient editors!
